In Excerpts, for Sustain, the refabrication of previously lost belongings is used as a point of departure for examining the relationships between technological tools, humans, and memory. A multi-stage material process that utilises 3D modelling and printing, mould making and casting, and finally photography and video, transforms personal memories, and their digital image counterparts found on the web, to fragile physical forms that persist and decay in their new tactile surroundings.
The plaster artifacts are a result of several underlying factors: the financial incentives of tech companies, the logic of the search engine, the agency of the people interfacing the system, and personal reminiscence. Brought together and assembled into photographs and a video, the images in the series begin to map out structures surrounding the collection, storage, and dissemination of information in the contemporary moment.
The works in the series are shown separately or as a fragmentary installation, mirroring the decentralised structure of the web. The video exists in two versions: a multi-channel version with an additional text component and a remixed single-channel version.
