Excerpts, for Sustain uses the process of rematerialising previously lost belongings as a point of departure for the study of relations between technological tools and humans. A multi-stage material process that utilises 3D modelling and printing, mould making and casting, and finally photography and video, transforms personal memories, and their digital image counterparts found on the web, to fragile physical forms that persist and decay in their new tactile surroundings.

As human agency, such as memory, is increasingly outsourced to digital tools with an opaque method of operation, the formation of a sense of self has started to oscillate between the actions of the different actors that make up the technology, namely other users and the logic of the machine. The work ponders what remains of people when the precarity of digital tools has come to suspend the contemporary moment.
