Tuure Leppänen (b.1999) is a visual artist working with photography, film, and installation. In his works, memory and feelings of belonging and disconnection are studied by examining how technological tools operate. By downloading, assembling, and recontextualising existing information, his works point to concealed structures in the accumulation and dissemination of information in the contemporary moment. Small – and often seemingly inconsequential – details from his, and others’, personal lives act as points of departure for projects that ask: How do machines affect the way we remember the past, experience the present, and head towards the future?
Leppänen holds a Master’s degree from the Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki, having also attended Akademie der Bildenden Künste Wien and participated in the Saastamoinen Foundation Mentorship Programme.
